Let me clarify that no new rules have been announced but the gratuity rules are proposed to be tweaked and is still approval. These are recommendations of the Parliamentary Standing Committee.
· The panel has suggested that the time limit of 5years for payment of gratuity be reduced to continuous service of 1 year. This will be the minimum period of employment required to be eligible for gratuity payment.
· It is also suggested that gratuity be made available to all types of employees including contract labour, seasonal workers, and daily wagers, apart from permanent employees on the rolls of the company.
