That is correct. In fact, FY21 saw record FDI inflow into India to the tune of $81.72 billion. This includes the dividends reinvested so it may differ from the basic flow data put out by the government of India. This is nearly 10% higher on yoy basis compared to $74 billion in FY20. IT and Hardware were the big attractions accounting for 44% of FDI flows.

The only other sector to get big flows other than IT & hardware was infrastructure at 13%. It was Saudi Arabia that emerged as the country tripling its FDI into India in FY21 at $2.82 billion. This was largely on the back of big investments that the Saudi sovereign funds made in Jio Platforms and Reliance Retail. FDI from the US and UK FDI were higher too.
