L&T has emerged as the lowest bidder for the design and construction of the 237 km length of viaduct; which is part of the prestigious Mumbai-Ahmadabad bullet train project. This has been one of the dream projects of the Modi government.
The total value of the L&T contract is estimated to be around Rs.24,985 crore and it will be the single largest civil contract parcel in the bullet train project. Currently, as per the term sheet signed, Japan is partnering India in putting up the bullet train project.
A total of 3 bidders, including the L&T bid, involving 7 large infrastructure companies participated in the bidding. Eventually, the decision to award the contract to L&T was taken after rigorous rounds of technical and financial evaluation. L&T has proven execution of mega projects in India and around the world.
The Mumbai-Ahmadabad bullet train corridor is estimated to cost Rs.108,000 crore and it will get funding support from JICA, Japan. When the project is completed, it is estimated to cut down travel time from Mumbai to Ahmadabad to just about 2 hours.
