Has the equity account surge resulted in higher STT collections?

STT collections have been booming at an unprecedented level this financial year. As of early Feb-22, government collected Rs.19,200 crore as STT for FY22 or 96% of revised estimates for STT. It had been scaled up from Rs.12,500 crore to Rs.20,000 crore. Now even that looks to be broken easily. In FY21, STT mop-up was Rs.13,000 crore, so FY22 collections could be 55-60% higher. Clearly, the large scale retail participation has helped.
