For the month of April, Maruti Suzuki reported 4% drop in total sales volumes at 159,691 units. In the previous month, Maruti had clocked sales of 167,014 units as a spike in COVID cases hit dispatches in a big way. Domestic sales fell 8% to 142,454 units. However, the sales of mini cars like Alto and S-Presso saw a rise of 2% 25,041 units on entry level demand.

There was a sharp fall of 12% in compact vehicles like Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire, down at 72,318 units compared to 82,201 units in the previous month. In addition, Maruti also witnessed a 4% fall in the sales of mid-sized sedans as well as a 3% fall in the sales of utility vehicles like Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and Ertiga.

Despite being quite small in comparison to the domestic market, Maruti’s export in April 2021 were up 49% at 17,237 units. With the global economies less impacted by the second round of COVID infections, exports offered a saving grace for Maurti.
