Has Vodafone been losing customers heavily in the June quarter?

During the quarter ended June 2021, Vodafone Idea lost a total of 1.24 crore subscribers, predominantly due to the impact of COVID 2.0, which seriously impacted operational and financial performance of the company. With the latest quarterly loss, the customer base of Vodafone India has now shrunk to 25.54 crore customers. The good thing is that most of the loss of customers happened in the low ARPU 2G segment while 4G segment was static.

The only good news for Vodafone Idea may that the 4G segment is only seeing modest customer losses. During the quarter, the big gainer was Reliance Jio which made the best of Vodafone’s falling market share. Reliance Jio adding 1.44 crore subscribers in the June quarter. If you look at the last 2 years since the troubles for Vodafone started, Vodafone Ideas lost a total of 6.46 crore customers, while Bharti and Jio added 15 crore.
