Bank Nifty Index is Sectoral Index and it's performance depend on the performance of the Banks. It will help you to diversify within the same sector but not business risk of that sector.
Any small change by Govt in it's fiscal and/or monetary policy may impact this sector. It is advisable to diversify within various business segment and not just within one particular sector.
