Like in the previous months, the Ministry of Commerce has put out the preliminary trade data for July 2021 on Monday. Exports were once again the star of the month. In fact, the merchandise Exports for July were up 48% yoy at $35.17 billion, one of the best performances in recent times. If you look at the first four months of FY22, exports have grown by 73.86% to $130.56 billion, indicating a solid start to the year.

In terms of specific products, there was good traction on select product categories. The export of processed petroleum saw 215% jump while the engineering goods exports were up by 42%. In a surprise shift, gems & jewellery exports were up 130% yoy. There was also good traction in electronics, textiles and pharma exports.
