During the week ended 23 July, a total of 6 out of 10 most valuable companies, or 60%, by market cap on the Nifty saw combined fall of Rs.76,641 crore in market value. The major reason for the fall was HDFC bank which saw a spike in asset quality stress. Obviously, HDFC Bank was the big loser during the week. Here is a look at some of the key numbers pertaining to the gains and losses in stocks during the week.

During the full week, HDFC Bank lost Rs.43,578 crore in market value while Hindustan Unilever ceded Rs.13,001 crore in market value. HDFC lost Rs.9,543 crore, Kotak Bank lost another Rs.5,393 crore and Reliance Industry also gave up Rs.4,184 crore during the week. Among gainers, Infosys gained Rs.15,056 crore, ICICI Bank Rs.11,371 crore TCS Rs.6,436 crore and Bajaj Finance Rs.3,190 crore; but HDFC bank perhaps spoiled the show.
