For the week ended on 28-January, a total of 9 of the 10 most valuable companies on the Nifty by market capitalization lost Rs.309,000 crore in just one week. This is despite the week being a truncated week with just 4 days of trading available. During the week gone by, the Sensex lost 3.11% during the week while mid-caps and small caps took bigger hits. The biggest value depletion was seen in Reliance Industries which lost Rs. Rs.96,512 crore.
The pressure on the IT index continued with TCS losing Rs.53,488 crore and Infosys giving up Rs.42,393 crore during the week. Among other losers during the week gone by were HDFC Bank Rs.31,815 crore, Bajaj Finance losing Rs.30,334 crore, ICICI Bank ceding Rs.16,292 crore, Bharti Airtel giving up Rs.15,815 crore, HDFC Rs.13,320 crore and HUL Rs.9,210 crore. SBI was the only gainer in the Nifty Top-10 list adding Rs.18,340 crore during the week.
