How did the market heavyweights fare in the previous week ending on 13 August?

For the week that just concluded on 13th August, a total of 8 out of the 10 most valuable companies by market capitalization on the Nifty Index, added total value to the tune of Rs.160,000 crore in terms of capital value accretion. Among the heavyweights in the index, TCS and RIL contributed the bulk of this rise. To be more specific, TCS gained Rs.56,133 crore in market value while Reliance added Rs.35,311 crore in market cap during the week.

With this move, the gap between TCS and Reliance has substantially narrowed with TCS inching towards market cap of Rs.13 trillion. Among other big gainers in the week were, Infosys adding Rs.23,522 crore, HDFC Bank bulking up by Rs.17,371 crore, HDFC by Rs. 13,305 crore and Hindustan Unilever adding Rs.7,671 crore to market cap. Bajaj Finance and State Bank of India saw market cap fall by Rs.4,289 crore and Rs.3,838 crore respectively.
