For the previous week ended 18 November, the total market valuation of the top 10 companies on the Nifty by market cap actually depleted in value by Rs.147,361 crore. This was the quantum of value destruction in the top 10 stocks on the Nifty. It could have been bigger had it been a full trading week, but that is a different story. Reliance led the way down losing Rs.75,962 crore while TCS lost a total of Rs.18,070 crore in value.

Most of the large stocks in the list were losers. Among the other value losers, HDFC lost Rs.12,321 crore, Kotak Mahindra Bank lost Rs.9,816 crore, ICICI Bank gave up Rs.9,410 crore, HDFC Bank ceded Rs.7,904 crore while SBI and Bajaj Finance gave up Rs.6,515 crore and Rs.5,167 crore respectively. Hindustan Unilever lost a much smaller Rs.2,200 crore. Infosys was the sole market leader but even here the gains were just about marginal.
