For the previous Christmas week ended 24-December, a total of five out of the ten most valuable companies on the Nifty actually added value overall. The total value accretion during the week was to the tune of Rs.101,145 crore. Clearly, the two most valuable companies on the Nifty showed the way with TCS and RIL being the top value gainers for the week. The HDFC group was among the major value losers during the week.
In terms of specific stock gainers, TCS added Rs.30,721 crore in market value, Reliance Industries Rs.21,036 crore, Infosys added Rs.17,657 crore, Hindustan Unilever packed Rs.16,001 crore and Wipro was richer by Rs.15,731 crore. Among major losers, HDFC Bank lost Rs.18,620 crore, HDFC ceded Rs.15,084 crore and SBI Rs.9,728 crore. The market cap of Infosys is now close to HDFC Bank and looks to replace HDFC Bank at No.3 by market cap.
