In a week when the Nifty gained over 1.33%, the overall markets were supposed to give a positive response. Not surprisingly, for the week ended 07th October 2022, the combined market cap of 7 out of the 10 most valuable companies were up Rs101,044 crore. The surge was led from the front by heavyweights stocks like Reliance Industries and TCS. In both cases, it was a mix of value buying at lower levels as well as short covering ahead of multiple data flows coming in the next week, both in India and from the US.

What were the stock that triggered the up move in the Indian market indices? Reliance saw market cap accretion of Rs37,582 crore, TCS added value to the tune of Rs22,082 crore, Infosys added Rs16,263 crore, ICICI Bank was heftier by Rs13,433 crore, HDFC added Rs6,733 crore and even HDFC Bank managed to add Rs4,623 crore in value. Among value losers, the big loser was the stock of Hindustan Unilever which lost Rs23,026 on margin worries in Q2. Bharti Airtel also came under some pressure and fell by Rs3,533 crore.
