It was a week in which the combined market capitalization of 6 out of the 10 most valuable companies on the NSE was lower resulting in market cap loss of nearly Rs78,163 crore. The biggest value depletion happened in Reliance Industries which lost value worth Rs42,113 crore. With hassles emerging in the smooth launch of 5G due to hardware and software issues, even Bharti Airtel lost Rs15,160 crore. Other losers on the Nifty index included frontline stocks like ICICI Bank which gave up Rs8,272 crore, Hindustan Unilever which ceded market value of Rs5,404 crore as rural sales remained a question mark.

Even some of the financials got impacted. For instance, Bajaj Finance gave up market value of Rs4,268 crore and SBI lost close to Rs2,945 crore of market cap during the week. But there were some gainers too and one surprising set of gainers included the IT stocks. Among gainers, Tata Consultancy Services added Rs11,965 crore in market capitalization while Infosys managed to add Rs9,384 crore on value buying at lower levels. The quick completion of the merger kept the HDFC twins in the limelight. For instance, during the week, HDFC Bank gained Rs5,793 crore and HDFC Ltd also gained Rs3,326 crore in market value.
