During the week just concluded, the Nifty was overall up by 1% while the gains in the Bank Nifty were to the tune of 4% and auto index was up 3.3% for the week. During the week, the overall market cap of 7 out of the 10 most valuable companies by market capitalization on the NSE saw value accretion to the tune of Rs116,048 crore. Needless to say, this was largely propelled by banks with top gainer for the week being HDFC Bank adding Rs39,359 crore.

The other gainers for the were also largely dominated by financials. They included Kotak Bank adding Rs23,231 crore, HDFC Ltd enhancing value by Rs23,142 crore, ICICI Bank padding up value of Rs21,047 crore and SBI Rs5,801 crore. RIL was the big loser at Rs31,762 crore on fears of windfall tax imposition on oil. Among other losers, TCS gave ceded Rs11,599 crore while LIC gave up Rs2,973 crore. LIC is the brand new entrant to the list.
