How did the most valuable companies on the NSE perform in the previous week ending on 05th August?

For the week ended 05th August a total of 8 out of the 10 most valuable companies as measured by market capitalization on the NSE, added wealth to the tune of Rs98,235 crore. The value accretion has been loewr than the previous two weeks as the markets show signs of tiring out at higher levels. The surge in market value in the previous week was led by IT majors like TCS and Infosys even as the benchmark indices like the Nifty and the Sensex closed 1.4% higher for the week. Mid caps and small caps were also in the green.

Among the major gainers in the week, Infosys added market cap of Rs28,170 crore while TCS added market value to the tune of Rs23,583 crore. Other key contributor to the market cap story were Reliance adding Rs17,048 crore, ICICI Bank chipping in with Rs13,861, LIC also adding Rs6,009 crore for a change, Bajaj Finance adding Rs5,709 crore and SBI Rs2,187 crore. HDFC and HDFC Bank twins lost Rs9,000 crore amidst merger questions. HDFC Bank had been the major rallying point for the market in the previous week.
