If you look at the highest weightage companies on the Nifty in the previous week, then you would notice that a total of eight out of the top ten high value companies on the Nifty saw gains to the tune of Rs.234,162 crore. Other than Hindustan Unilever and HDFC Bank, all the other top-10 stocks contributed handsomely to the Nifty gains in the previous week. The sentiments were largely supported by a more accommodative approach by Fed.

Let us look at the big gainers first. Among the big gainers, Reliance added Rs.69,504 crore amidst a slew of smart acquisitions in the recent past. Infosys added Rs.48,386 crore and TCS managed to add Rs.42,317 crore during the week after the sales growth numbers came in better than expected, despite some disappointment on margins. Among other gainers, HDFC gained Rs.21,126 crore while ICICI Bank added Rs.18,651 crore in market cap.

That was not all. India’s largest bank, SBI, added Rs.15,127 crore in market while Bajaj Finance also added Rs.10,291 crore in market value ahead of its results this week. Telecom major Bharti Airtel gained Rs.8,761 crore, after it opted out of the government proposal to convert AGR interest dues into equity. The 2 stocks to lose market cap in the week were Hindustan Unilever at Rs.12,218 crore and HDFC Bank at Rs.2,854 crore.
