How did the stock market heavyweights on the Nifty perform in the previous week ending on 07-January?

It was a week in which there was a decisive up move in the heavyweight stocks. If you look at it numerically, total of eight out of the top ten most valuable Indian companies on the Nifty in terms of market capitalization were up. They jointly added Rs.250,006 crore in value just during the previous week, largely helped along by year-beginning buying by FPIs.

Reliance Industries and TCS, two of the biggest names by market cap, led the rally in the week. In terms of specific stocks in the Nifty, Reliance Industries market cap grew by Rs.46,380 crore, TCS grew by Rs.43,649 crore, Bajaj Finance saw accretion of Rs.41,274 crore, HDFC Bank Rs.39,129 crore, ICICI Bank Rs.36,887 crore and SBI was up by Rs.27,532 crore. Among losers, Infosys lost Rs.32,173 crore while Wipro Rs.2,193 crore in the week.
