One 97 Communications, the company that owns and operates Paytm, announced a 64% yoy growth in quarterly revenues at Rs.1,090 crore for Sep-21 quarter. This growth was largely driven by a 52% growth in non-UPI payment volumes (GMV) as well as solid traction in the financial services and other revenues. Paytm also reported a consolidated net loss of Rs.473 crore, widening from Rs.437 crore in due to a sharp spike in expenses by 35%.

The company had just listed its stock after the mega Rs.18,300 crore IPO which included Rs.8,300 crore by way of fresh issue. Paytm had a bad listing but has since recovered much of the price damage. The revenue pie was dominated by a 60% growth in payments and financial services to Rs.843 crore while commerce and cloud services saw 47% growth in top line revenues at Rs.2434 crore.

What was really gratifying for Paytm was that the gross merchandise value or GMV for the quarter more than doubled on yoy basis to Rs.195,600 crore. The average monthly transacting users or MTUs grew 35% yoy in October 2021 from 4.70 crore to 6.30 crore over one year. Paytm is backed by some marque global investment names like Ant Group, Softbank of Japan and the redoubtable Berkshire Hathaway.
