For the second quarter of FY23 ended September 2022, Tata Steel reported flat sales of Rs59,878 crore on a consolidated basis. For Q2FY23, the core revenues from the Tata Steel India operations and the Tata Steel Europe operations were almost flat while only the Tata Steel Long Products business witnessed a spike in revenues for the quarter. Tata Steel board approved the amalgamation of seven of its listed and unlisted entities into the parent as a value accretive merger. India deliveries for Tata Steel were up 7% yoy and 21% on a sequential QOQ basis with EBITDA per tonne at Rs9,986. Europe deliveries were lower.

Let me now turn to the profit performance of Tata steel, which fell sharply For the September 2022 quarter, the net profits of Tata Steel fell by 87.3% at Rs1,514 crore on a yoy basis. The profits were also sharply lower on a sequential basis. This can be largely attributed to the spike in the raw material costs in the quarter, largely on account of the spike in coking coal prices. This largely on account of supply chain constraints created by the Russia Ukraine war. However, EBITDA margins stood at around 10% on standalone and consolidated basis. Net Margins were at 2.53% in Q2FY23 compared to 19.74% in Q2FY22 and net margins of 12.24% in Q1FY23 quarter.
