Coal India reported an absolutely flat to marginal decline in net profits at Rs.4,586 crore for the Mar-21 quarter. Even the top line revenues were lower on a yoy basis at Rs24,511 crore for Mar-21 quarter as there was minor weakness in coal production although the coal offtake was almost at par on a comparable basis. Board of directors of Coal India recommended final dividend of Rs.3.50 per share taking total annual dividend to Rs.16.

During the Mar-21 quarter, the production of coal by the company fell marginally to 203.42 MT even as the company’s offtake also was flat at 164.33 MT. These numbers were more flattering on a sequential basis. Coal India currently enjoys virtual dominance in coal mining and accounts for 80% of India’s coal output. It gets most of its coal demand from the thermal power plants across India.
