On Monday the first day of the week, the start was fairly uncertain as the indices oscillated between gains and losses. However, by the second half the gainers were decisively winning. The rally was led by oil stocks on Monday, led by IOCL and BPCL. Some of the specific stocks like Shree Cements came under press after results. Metals stayed under strain.

The advance decline ratio or the A/D ratio was roughly balanced on Monday at around 26:24 with not clear trend emerging. However, VIX continued to remain subdued. Probably, markets are celebrating that net profits of Indian manufacturing sector is growing at 15% sequentially, even in such a tough quarter, when Dec-20 was expected to be the peak.

FPI action was favourable on Monday with net buying of Rs.585 crore but the domestic institutions sold equities worth Rs.708 crore on Monday. While FPI concerns appear to have waned after the immediately COVID 2.0 concerns, fresh buying is yet to emerge from the global investors in a big way.

Global markets appear to be in the midst of a frenetic rally. On Monday, there was a rally building up in the US and Europe on growth revival hopes. The Dow rallied 70 bps while the NASDAQ is up 160 bps. Europe may be s relatively more subdued but still higher by 50 bps. SGX Nifty is trading higher by 40 bps in early trades.
