Even as the battle for the COVID vaccine rages on with all the ifs and buts, President Vladimir Putin of Russia may be having his Eureka moment. Putin could have reasons to celebrate as Russia’s COVID vaccine, Sputnik V, is garnering a lot of interest globally. It has been reported through credible sources that there are companies across the world that are lining up for supplies of Sputnik V.

Sputnik, in recent tests, has give evidence of its efficacy, although the Western markets may not fully accept the same. Sputnik V has now been confirmed by experts to credibly protect against the Coronavirus as effectively as the US and European shots. In addition, the Russian vaccine has been observed to be a lot more effective than the Chinese vaccine candidate, where anyways most people have their own doubts.

The process of approval has already begun in right earnest. As of now, over 20 countries have already approved the Russian vaccine for emergency use in their respective countries and this list includes Hungary from the EU as well as other countries like Brazil and India on the threshold of approval. Turkey has also approved the Russian vaccine despite being a long term ally of the NATO forces.

In fact, the results based on the late-stage trials of a total of 20,000 participants at clinical trials had showed that the vaccine had 91.6% success rate. This would put it at par with Astra Zeneca and the Pfizer vaccine as well as Moderna. Ironically, the domestic demand for the vaccine remained weak as the local public remains suspicious of the Russian product although global customers are veering towards it.
