How has been the FPI selling in the month of March 2022 so far?

Amidst the ongoing war situation and the rising geopolitical risk, there has been no respite in FPI selling. This is despite the fact that the markets did see a pullback during the week. FPIs have already sold equities to the tune of Rs.45,608 crore in Indian markets till the 11th of March with heavy selling in both weeks. Ironically, in the second week of March, when 4 out of 5 trading days were positive, FPIs net sold worth over more than Rs.27,000 crore.

Overall, for the month of March 2022 till date, FPIs have pulled out Rs.41,168 crore from equities and Rs.4,431 crore from bonds. It may be recollected that FPIs had turned net sellers in October 2021 and that trend has continued ever since. There is risk-off tendency across Asian emerging markets. FPIs sold $7.09 billion in Taiwan, $2.67 billion in South Korea and $426 million in Indonesia. Indian markets saw maximum selling across IT and financials.
