After a very tepid start to the rainy season, there appears to be some good news on the monsoon progression in India. As of the 20th of June, the annual rainfall covered more than 50% of India. The existing conditions are favourable for the monsoons to land in central, north and western regions this week.
This was disclosed by the Met department. This is likely to accelerate sowing of summer-sown crops, which had got delayed due to the below-normal rainfall in first half of June 2022. Monsoons have already covered South and East India. While the rains did hit the Kerala Coast ahead of schedule, the progress has since been tardy. Since June 01st, rains have been nearly 36% below the long period average (LPA).
