The commerce ministry has just declared preliminary estimates for trade for April 2022. India's merchandise exports for Apr-22 stood at $38.19 billion, lower than the $42.22 billion exports recorded in Mar-22. This is based on preliminary data released by the Commerce Ministry. The final data will be announced around the 15th of this month.

It must be noted that with merchandise imports still quite robust at $58.26 billion, the trade deficit widened to $20.07 billion for Apr-22 from a little over $18 billion last month. Crude accounted for 34% of total imports in value terms amidst rising crude prices globally .Meanwhile, coal imports surged 136%. Fortunately, gold imports were 73% lower at $1.69 billion.
