To say the very least, the year 2021 has been a bumper year for initial public offerings or IPOs in India. Out of 10 IPOs that have got listed till date in the year 2021, 8 of these 10 IPOs have actually listed at a premium to the issued prices and have continued to trade at a premium. That is a very good ratio, especially considering that many of these IPOs got listed or opened their IPOs in difficult market conditions and still did pretty well.

Out of these 8 gainers, MTAR Technologies, Indigo Paints, Nureca and Heranba Industries were the four IPOs that actually opened with listing gains of more than 40%. Antony Waste was an IPO that closed last year but was listed in bourses in early January this year. The stock had listed at par and now trades at a discount to the issue price. IRFC was the only IPO to list at a discount in 2021 and that stock continues to be under pressure.

The star listing of the year 2021 was Hyderabad MTAR Technologies, which executes defence and research related projects for the Defence establishment. The stock listed at a premium of 84% followed by Indigo Paints listing at a premium of 75%. In the first 3 months of 2021, a total of 13 companies raised over Rs.16,000 crore via IPOs till date as compared to Rs.31,000 crore in the whole of 2020. There are still 5 more listings slated in Mar-21.
