How is India’s sugar output likely to pan out for India in the next two years?

India’s sugar production for the sugar cycle year 2022-23 is expected to fall marginally to 35.5 million tonnes. As you would be aware, the sugar cycle year in India extends from October of the current year to September of next year. Lower sugar output is due to higher share of cane being diverted to ethanol manufacturing. In sugar year 2021-22, total sugar output is expected at 36 million tonnes. However, if you consider net sugar production before ethanol diversion, then 2022-23 is still marginally higher than 2021-22.
