Reliance plans to acquire a controlling stake in T-Mobile Netherlands BV, which is the largest mobile operator in the Dutch nation. Currently, T-Mobile is 75% owned by Deutsche Telecom, national telecom company of Germany and one of the most prominent players in Europe.
Reliance has been on the deal for some time now and is in the process of shortlisting lenders to fund this transaction. Apparently, a number of foreign banks are forming a consortium to bankroll this transaction. This deal will give Reliance a foot-hold in Western along with a significant presence in the UK. That is not surprising considering that Bharti Airtel, already has a very strong and diversified global presence in Africa.
