How is the India inflation likely to come out for the month of April 2022?

The inflation announcement for the month of April 2022 will be made by the MOSPI on Thursday 12th May 2022. However, according to the consensus estimates of Reuters, the inflation could see another sharp spike in the month of April. For March 2022, the CPI inflation stood at 6.95% but this is likely to spike further to 7.5% in the month of April 2022. This is likely to be driven by a combination of high fuel inflation and food inflation.

It must be remembered here that the 7.5% anticipated inflation is the consensus estimate of Reuters economists. The worst case inflation could go all the way to 7.85% and many economists are not ruling out a surge closer to 8%, albeit not officially. Most of the economists surveyed expected core inflation to have also spiked sharply in sync with food inflation and fuel inflation. The US announces inflation data for April 2022 on 11th May.
