It was a flattering set of numbers by Coal India for Q2FY23. Net profits for the quarter were up 106% at Rs6,044 crore even as the sales were up 29% at Rs27,538 crore. This growth is on the back of better coal auction realizations amidst a global shortage of coal. However, net profits fell on a sequential basis. During Q2FY23, the raw coal production stood at 139.22 million tonnes against 125.83 million tonnes in Q2FY22. Even median realizations for Coal India edged higher at Rs6,061 per tonne. The board has announced an interim dividend of Rs15 per share.
