E-voting is voting through an electronic system where members/shareholders can vote on the resolutions of the company. The need for e-voting arises when a company wants to pass any resolution through Postal Ballot/AGM/EGM. MCA has authorized NSDL for conducting such e-voting through its online portal.

How will one benefit:
  1. Substantial reduction in administration costs for,
  2. Verification of signatures
  3. Storing of physical ballot papers
  4. Postal correspondence
  5. Accuracy in vote counting
  6. Elimination of the possibility of getting votes lost in the delivery.
  7. Paperless mode of casting vote.
  8. Sufficient time for shareholders to vote till the end of the voting cycle.
You have been receiving these emails because of NSDL’s requirements to facilitate e-voting. E-voting or any other voting is completely optional, so shareholders may decide otherwise. You can ignore these emails unless it appears necessary to you to vote on a certain matter. There is no obligation on the shareholder to vote as such. In the case of companies where there are thousands of shareholders (listed companies), it is just a requirement for the company to send these emails. So, that is just part of the legal framework of the company.
