In fact, the actual number is a little more as the government is now laying 37 KM of highways on a daily basis on an average. None other than the Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has confirmed that the length of National Highways had gone up by 50% over the last seven years. For the financial year 2020-21, the average length of highways laid was 37 kilometres per day.

As a result, Nitin Gadkari confirmed that the total length of the national highways over the last 7 years had gone up by a whopping 51% from 91,287 km to 137,625 km. That was largely because the government increased the total budgetary outlay 5.5X from Rs.33,414 crore in FY15 to Rs.183,101 cr in FY22. Apart from approvals, even the sanctioned amount for such projects has increased by 126% in the in FY21 over FY20.
