The government appears to be pushing the Bullet Train project on high priority and one of the big beneficiaries appears to be Larsen & Toubro. L&T has now has emerged as the lowest bidder for the C6 unit of the Mumbai-Ahmadabad bullet train project.
It may be recollected that L&T had quoted a sum of Rs.7,289 crore for this phase. This turned out to be the lowest bid and other bidders like Tata Projects, J Kumar Infrastructure, AFCONS and IRCON were also in the fray for the Bullet Train project.
The bullet train project was one of the dream projects of the Modi government intended to cut down the travel time from Mumbai to Ahmadabad to just about 2 hours. India is being assisted technically and financially in this project by the Japanese government.
This contract for L&T comes on top of it already having won the contract to execute C4 package for which L&T had quoted Rs.24,985 crore. The contract to L&T would include testing and commissioning for high speed double line involving viaducts, crossing bridges.
The total project cost would be in the region of Rs.60,000 crore and L&T is already the largest recipient of execution orders for the project. This is likely to boost the already expansive order book of the company as infrastructure investments revive in India.
