It finally looks like there is some encouraging news for the airline sector in India. The domestic air passenger traffic surged by a whopping 47.2% in Jun-21 compared to the month of May. The data was released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation or DGCA. For Jun-21, the passenger load on airlines stood at 31.13 lakhs compared to just 19.84 lakhs in the month of May. This was largely on the back of lifting of restrictions on flying.

Even if you look at the airline data on a yoy basis, this marks a 57% growth in air traffic. SpiceJet led the PLF or passenger load factor rankings at 71% followed closely by Go Air at 70.9% and Air India at 58.4%. PLF is the equivalent of capacity utilization and determines cost absorption by the airline. Indigo continued to lead the aviation market in India with a market share of 54.7%, followed at a safe distance by Air India.
