Is it true that Reliance Jio is making all domestic voice calls free of cost and what does it mean for others?

Reliance Jio has announced that effective 01-Jan it will revoke the interconnect usage charges or IUC which it had levied on domestic calls. Thus, all domestic voice calls from the network would be free for its users. This is in sync with TRAI announcement. Thus domestic calls will revert to being free, putting a new level of pricing pressure on competition.

IUC is paid by one telecom operator when the call lands in the network of another operator. Jio started charging IUC after TRAI had extended the timeline for implementation of the Bill & Keep regime beyond Jan-20. However, Jio had then assured users that such charge would persist only till TRAI abolished IUC charges. Voice calls will surely get cheaper now.
