The companies they represent have applied for a mutual fund license. The Samir Arora founded Helios Capital of Singapore as well as Rakesh Jhunjhunwala floated Alchemy Capital Management have applied to SEBI for a mutual fund license. Both had applied in the early part of this year for the license. Samir Arora was heading the Alliance Capital fund in the 1990s and early 2000s before it was merged into Birla MF.

Helios Capital is registered with the regulators in Singapore and India and it manages India-focused long-short fund as well as long funds on India and global equities. Alchemy was co-founded by Rakesh along with Hiren Ved and others and it offers portfolio management services or PMS and also alternate investment products. For Samir Arora it will be a kind of home coming after a gap of almost 20 years.

In the last 8 months, Indian equity fund shave been seeing consistent outflows despite equity indices scaling record highs.
