In the first 10 days of June 2022, the foreign portfolio investors have sold around Rs14,000 crore of equities. This takes the total net selling in Indian equities in year 2022 so far to Rs1.81 trillion. FPIs have been spooked by factors like the war situation, rate hikes, supply chain bottlenecks and commodity inflation.
In addition, even the hawkishness of the Fed and the RBI have contributed to the bearishness of the FPIs. However, India was not alone in seeing an aggressive sell-off. The FPIs also sold in other emerging markets in Asia like Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines and South Korea.
