For the last few days, there have been speculations about a possible tie-up between Tata Motors and Tesla. While both companies have refused to commit anything on the project, the normal experience is that there is no smoke without fire. But on Tuesday, Tesla confirmed that they are surely looking to expand their India footprint.
While the speculation about a possible manufacturing and marketing tie-up between Tata Motors and Tesla is still doing the rounds, there have been other developments. It has now been officially confirmed that Tesla has set up its India office in the technology capital of Bengaluru and it has also appointed three persons to the board of directors of the Indian subsidiary registered in the state of Karnataka.
Tesla had been exploring its entry into India over last 3 years and had been in touch with a number of state governments. Bengaluru, apparently, offered Tesla the best of technology expertise as Tesla is looking to set up an R&D centre here. While the Tata deal is not yet confirmed, official sources have confirmed on behalf of the Tesla group that the company would soon commence selling Tesla cars in India.
