It is perfectly possible and it is not too far off. Remember, Index numbers are just numbers and they say little else, but 45,000 are really not far away. The Sensex touched 40,000 on vote counting day so that is just another 12% away. You know quite well that 12% return on equities in a year is hardly anything. So levels of 45,000 or 50,000 may happen and you cannot rule that out. The bigger question you need to ask is that if the Sensex is going to touch 45,000 or 50,000 then what are the stocks that you should be buying. For example, you can look at themes like consumption or turnarounds or select mid caps to make profits in the market. Look at what is going to be the budget like and what reforms the government will initiate. Then look at which stocks could benefit from the government coming back with a big mandate. In my opinion some of the good stocks could be names like:

Britannia / Adani Ports / Bank of Baroda / State Bank of India / Hindustan Unilever / HDFC Bank / Bharti Airtel and many more! Buying the right stock at this point of time is more important than worrying about whether the Sensex will touch 45,000 or 50,000.
