Not surprisingly, the US still dominates but China is making its presence felt and names from Europe and Japan are losing out. Let us compare. In 1997, there were 6 US companies, 2 European and 2 Japanese companies in Top-10 most valuable list. Today, in top-20 there are 13 US companies, 3 Chinese and 1 each from Europe, Taiwan, Korea and Saudi Arabia.
In my view it is not about technology but the shift is about how well select companies have managed to adapt. Take the case of how Amazon reinvented selling or Apple reinvented music or Google reinvented advertising. There are names like TSMC, Samsung and Visa that have almost become indispensable. The more adaptable the better chance you stand.
