Adani Enterprises is likely to be the second Adani group stock to be added to the Nifty index from 30th September. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone is already a part of the Nifty Index. This change was part of the periodic review of the Nifty -50 index and the Nifty Next 50 indices. On the Nifty, Adani Enterprises will replace Shree Cement. That is also a kind of poetic justice since with the recent acquisition of stake in ACC and Ambuja, Adani group has increased its ranking to second in cement capacity, ahead of Shree Cements.

In the last few years, Adani Enterprises has emerged as the flagship value creator for the Adani group and has been one of the big wealth creators since the lows of the pandemic in March 2020. Adani Enterprises is the flagship holding company and incubator of new businesses for the Adani Group. Shree Cement was the second largest cement company in India by capacity after Ultratech. Shree Cements owns some of the marquee brands such as Roofon, Bangur Power, Shree Jung Rodhak, Bangur Cement and Rockstrong.

The changes are not just restricted to the Nifty 50, but have been extended to other indices as well. Consider these. IRCTC has been included in the Nifty Next 50 index in the rebalancing of NSE indices. Apart from IRCTC; Adani Total Gas, Bharat Electronics Ltd, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, Mphasis and Samvardhana Motherson International find a place in the Nifty Next 50. Shree gets downgraded to Nifty Next 50.

Among the stocks to be excluded from the Nifty Next 50 are Adani Enterprises, Jubilant Foodworks, Lupin, Mindtree, PNB, SAIL and Zydus Lifesciences. Adani Enterprises is being elevated to the Nifty 50 while Mindtree is being dropped from the indices due to its proposed merger with L&T Infotech.
