Like it has been happening on the last few occasions, a small number of stocks have moved the Sensex and Nifty higher. If you look at this 20% move from 50,000 to 60,000, then it has been predominantly accounted for by just 4 stocks viz. Reliance Industries, Infosys, TCS and ICICI Bank. While these four stocks accounted for 50% of the gains on the Sensex, it was RIL and Infosys that contributed the maximum to the Sensex rally.

There were a number of other stocks that also gained quite sharply. For example, Bajaj Finance was a sharp gainer in this period. Similarly, even Bharti and Tata Steel gained sharply, despite the correction in Tata Steel in the last one week. The biggest jump came from Bajaj Finserv, which more than doubled during this period, but of course, its relative weight in the index is pretty low, so the overall impact is limited.
