Larsen & Toubro has already commissioned the green hydrogen plant at Hazira in Gujarat. It may be recollected that earlier this year, L&T had signed a JV agreement with IOCL and ReNew Power to produce green hydrogen. This will also include the manufacture of electrolysers. The plant will produce 45 KG of green hydrogen on a daily basis, but will be entirely used only for captive consumption for now. The usage will also be at Hazira only.

The green hydrogen plant is designed for electrolyser capacity of 800 KW which comprises of 380 KW alkaline and 420 KW polymer electrolyte membrane. The polymer membrane electrolyser is part of the future expansion plan. This will include the generation of high purity green Hydrogen (99.99%) and oxygen along with captive consumption. A blend of 15 per cent hydrogen with natural gas will be used as fuel while the oxygen will supplement the existing cutting and welding applications, where oxygen finds extensive application.

L&T has also set up state-of-the-art control systems with remote monitoring functionality to ensure high degree of safety and security. A real time proprietary data analytics platform will feed insights into the performance of the electrolysers. This move is part of the overall plan of L&T to achieve water neutrality by 2035 and carbon neutrality by 2040. A well calibrated green energy policy is also conducive to valuations, a has been the experience in the past .
