NFO is an abbreviation to New Fund Offer, which refers to a new scheme launched by an Asset Management Company (AMC) for the very first time in the market. This is the first attempt to raise funds from the public through the subscription process. The capital collected is used to buy securities like shares or government bonds.
Generally, an AMC launches NFO as a new scheme to complete its product basket or to fulfill the investors demand for a particular type of investment theme. Closed-end funds can be bought by investor only during the offer period however, open-end funds can be brought by investor anytime.
