Not only Reliance Jio, but even Google has decided to defer its launch of smart phones in India due to a major global shortage of semiconductor chips. Smart phones are the most dependent on these microchips and despatch delays have created tremendous supply chain constraints. The Jio Phones were to go live in September. It could be launched by Diwali.
The microchip crisis has hit industries ranging from automobiles to smartphones to video game consoles. In the AGM, Mukesh Ambani had promised the launch of Reliance smart phone on Ganesh Chaturthi.
