Franklin Templeton just announced the seventh tranche pay-out to the unit holders of its beleaguered six debt funds. The latest tranche will entail a pay-out of Rs.1,115 crore and will be managed by the liquidator, SBI Funds Management. Once this seventh tranche is completed, Templeton would have paid out Rs.25,114 crore to the unit holders of the six beleaguered funds constituting around 99.6% of the AUM as on 23-Apr 2020.

Prior to this pay-out, a total of Rs.23,999 crore had already been disbursed across six tranches starting February of this year. In April 2020, Templeton had summarily decided to shut down redemptions in six funds due to liquidity and asset quality problems. The fund is also facing a SEBI order to disgorge unlawful gains made in the process and even some top management personnel have been found guilty of fronting trades ahead of closure.
