SBI has raised a sum of Rs.4,000 crore via Additional Tier 1 bonds or AT1 bonds. The coupon rate was 7.72%, which is the lowest in the peer group. The AT1 bond issue had a base issue size of Rs.1,000 crore, but expressions of interest were to the tune of Rs.10,000 crore. Eventually, SBI accepted Rs.4,000 crore at 7.72%. AT1 debt is perpetual debt in nature but these AT1 bonds can be called back by the issuer after completion of 5 years.
