Indian exports for March 2021 were up by a whopping 60% at $34.45 billion on a yoy basis. This was triggered by a push to Agri-exports. However, the pandemic had an overall impact as the outbound shipments for fiscal year 2020-21 was lower by 7.26% at $290.63 billion. However, it must be said that the damage was largely limited by the late recovery.

Import grew at 53.3% to $48.38 billion for March 2021. Like in exports, this was largely due to the base effect. However, for the full fiscal FY21, the total imports were lower by 18% at $389.18 billion largely due to the slowdown effect. The trade deficit widened mom to $13.93 billion in Mar-21 but full-year FY21 trade deficit was down 39% at $98.56 billion.
